Who we are

Smart Energy Council in Sri Lanka is a not-for-profit entity governed by a volunteer board of directors comprising of multi-disciplinary group of professionals.  

We peruse to be a think-tank to identify challenges, find solutions, advocate for implementation, and monitor the progress of smart energy revolution in Sri Lanka by providing a single independent platform for all stakeholders to congregate.

All companies, organizations, Groups, Scholars, Students and individuals in both public and private sector who are interested in smart energy are invited to be stakeholders in Smart Energy Council.

VISION

To be the catalyst/platform in Sri Lanka to steer the smart energy revolution that is pivotal to realizing a greener and   sustainable world.

MISSION

Sujeewa Karunasekera

Sujeewa Karunasekera is a Finance professional with over 25 years of local and international experience in large and multinational organizations specializing in Telecoms with extensive senior management experience in Strategy, Finance & Commercial Negotiations.

He is a Fellow Member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of United Kingdom and a Finalist of Chartered Institute of Marketing – UK, holding a Bachelors Special Degree in Commerce from the University of Colombo.

Prof. Anura Wijayapala

Prof. Anura Wijayapala is an Electrical Engineer graduated from University of Moratuwa in 1991. He served in the private sector electrical engineering industry for 15 years before joining as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering of University of Moratuwa in year 2006.

He obtained his Master of Engineering Degree in the year 2001 from University Moratuwa. He has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1996 and he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and an International Professional Engineer.

He is a Fellow Member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of United Kingdom and a Finalist of Chartered Institute of Marketing – UK, holding a Bachelors Special Degree in Commerce from the University of Colombo.

Hiran Karunaratne

Hiran Karunaratne has a MSc (Hons) in Computer Systems and Networks and he is an Ex-co member of the Sri Lanka – Russia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. He is a Past President of the Sri Lanka – Russia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and a Past member of Tea Advisory Board of the Ministry of Plantation Industries.
He had served as a Member of the Board of Management of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) and is a Past Member of the Board of Management of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).

Eng. Chandrasiri Wickramasekara

Eng.Chandrasiri Wickramasekara is a Chartered Electrical Engineer graduated from University of Peradeniya in 1978 and is a Member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK) and Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (USA). After a short assignment as an Instructor at Dept. of Electrical Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, he joined Ceylon Electricity Board in February, 1978 where he served more than 38 years until his retirement in September 2016.

In CEB, he specialized in Electrical Power Generation serving as Operations Engineers, Electrical Maintenance Engineer and Chief Engineer in charge of the Power Station, Deputy General Manager in charge of Thermal Power Complex, Deputy General Manager in charge of Private Power Generation Projects, Deputy General Manager in Charge of Power Plant Rehabilitation Projects, Additional General Manager in charge of Generation Division of the CEB and as the General Manager of the CEB.

Eng. P Chulani Perera

Eng. P Chulani Perera graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 1982 with a B.Sc. (Eng.) (Hons.) degree specialized in Electrical Power Engineering. After his graduation he was employed as an Electrical Engineer in the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in 1983. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka
He has served the CEB as Project Manager (Upper Kotmale Engineering Services Project); Secretary to the CEB Board; as Chief Engineer in Transmission Maintenance, Transmission Asset Management; as Deputy General Manager in Communications, Training, Personnel Western Province South 1; as Project Director – Electrical (Puttalam Coal Power Project); as Additional General Manager Distribution Division 4, Distribution Division 1 and as the Chairman – Distribution Coordination Committee of CEB.

Ruwan Amarasekara

Ruwan Amarasekara is a Chartered member of BCS the Chartered Institute for IT and obtained his MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2001. He has a Post graduate Diploma in Marketing and was an Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is a Member of Project Management Institute (PMI), USA. He is a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK Finalist.

He is a Professional with C level & Senior Executive level experience in management providing expertise in General Management / Planning / Systems Implementation / Institutional Development for tech transformation of organizations in multiple industries while contributing to ICT industry activities and lecturing / supervising / coaching for the development of young ICT professionals.
